Capture Prompts with Hermes Desktop Quick Entry

Quick Entry is a small global composer that can appear from anywhere on the computer. It is designed for short prompt capture when opening or switching to the full Desktop window would interrupt the current task.

Configure a deliberate shortcut

Enable Quick Entry in Settings → Advanced → Quick Entry. The default shortcut is Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Space, and you can choose another combination with at least one modifier. If another application already owns the chord, Desktop reports the conflict so you can select a different binding.

Keep Quick Entry prompts compact and self-contained. Because the lightweight composer appears outside the main workspace, verify the intended profile, destination session behavior, and included context before sending anything sensitive or consequential.

Setup checklist

Enable Quick Entry in the correct profile or Desktop installation.
Choose a shortcut with at least one modifier.
Confirm the settings row reports no conflict.
Test the shortcut from two ordinary applications.
Verify where a submitted prompt appears in Hermes Desktop.
Keep private clipboard content out of prompts unless explicitly needed.
Open the full chat for tasks that need files, history, approvals, or careful review.

Common pitfalls

Using a popular system shortcut. The overlay may fail or conflict unpredictably.
Sending without checking profile context. A quick capture can land in the wrong work boundary.
Treating Quick Entry as a full review surface. Long, sensitive, or side-effecting requests deserve the main window.
Pasting hidden clipboard data. Review the actual prompt before submission.

Verification

Set a temporary conflict-free shortcut, summon Quick Entry from another application, and send a harmless uniquely worded prompt. Confirm the exact prompt appears once in the expected Hermes session and that the main window did not need to be foregrounded first. Restore the preferred shortcut after the test.
